Research Staff Profile!

Feixia Yu is interested in the design and delivery of specialist modules in Chinese Studies and Translation and Interpreting at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. With Masters in Asia Pacific Studies and Translation Studies, she has specialized knowledge in both areas which feed into her curriculum design. She has delivered a number of papers at international conferences, including:

"Pragmatic Competence in Second Language Learners", International Conference for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, Hanover, August, 1999

"Non-Cognitive Constraints and Self-Monitoring in Court Interpreting", International Conference on Translation and Intercultural Studies, Shanghai, August, 2002;

"Developing Chinese Literacy Skill through Extensive Listening and Viewing", UK Chinese Language Teaching Seminar, Oxford, September, 2003

She also helped to organize the European Conference for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, SOAS, April, 2004. She is also a practising legal translator and interpreter. She is also a member of the British Society for Chinese Studies; the UK Chinese Language Teaching Seminar; and the National Association for the Teaching of English and Community Languages.
